low carbon chalets
The first of these chalets has been designed for a coastal location. However, the design would be suitable for many other locations where low impact holiday accommodation is required.
It is a simple extruded form with a raised seam metal roof, unfinished larch panels and a linear plan arrangement. The highly insulated house will be closed up with shutters when not in use. An air to water heat pump will supply virtually all the hot water demand for the building including the under floor heating system, with a log burning stove to provide additional space heating as required. Other eco-build features include the harvesting of rainwater, a composting toilet and an array of photovoltaic panels. As a result of utilising on-site renewable technologies, the chalet will meet its own energy requirements for most of the time it is occupied.
