terraced house top and tail

The existing Victorian house had previously had an unattractive rear conservatory added which failed to connect the house to the garden. FORM’s approach was to provide a light and airy series of connected, yet defined spaces with clear views to the outside. With the open plan nature of the layout came the need to create an internal landscape to provide definition within the space and to subtly differentiate sub-areas and different functions. This has been achieved by the use of different levels and with a sunken dining area created as a more intimate space, a large block containing a dual aspect gas fire and plasma screen tv, and with timber screening.

At the top of the house, the previous store room under the eaves has been opened up to form a new guest bedroom by the addition of a new lead clad dormer. Frosted glass was used in the main elevation facing the neighbouring house to address the planning authority’s concerns of overlooking.
